Jorkki and the ice fishers
When I lived in Finland, I got to know three ice fishermen. Our first encounter was on a Friday morning. I walked through knee-high snow towards them on the lake to ask what they were doing. After this I met these men on the lake every Friday morning. The ice fishing process was fascinating to me; a process that I wanted to understand from their perspective. Eventually I painted one of these men and the week after I let them roll it out on the lake. The plastic almost ripped because of the extreme cold, but that didn't matter. I wanted to show these men how I saw them. The work became part of the landscape and the landscape became the work.
